Community

Understand:

  • A community is a group of people with a shared interest, goal or place.
  • A community provides people with a sense of belonging and support.

Know:

  • We are part of the Eskdale School Community as well as other communities within the school e.g. classes, houses etc.
  • As a member of the community we have rights and responsibilities.
  • As a community member we all have something to contribute.
  • Everybody in the community needs to work together to achieve our common goals.

Do: 

  • We give things a go and positively participate in different Eskdale groups.
  • We follow the community agreed upon expectations, and work in the groups with a positive attitude.
  • We show manaakitanga and value working in tuākana/teina relationships 
  • We welcome others into our different school communities

Aspiration

Understand:

  • Aspiration is having a hope, aim or ambition of achieving something we cannot yet do.

Know: 

  • Having aspiration grows our ability to take risks, set goals and become lifelong learners.
  • We are aspirational when we follow our passions that provide us with a sense of purpose and identity.

Do:

  • We follow our passions through Learning, through Play, STEAM and Passion Projects.
  • We set goals for ourselves and persevere to accomplish them.
  • We use growth mindset and vocabulary and the Learning Pit Model to effectively meet our challenges.

ASPIRATION

Respect

Understand:

  • Respect is positive feelings and actions that demonstrate care towards a person, place or thing.

Know:

  • We show respect for each other, ourselves and the environment.
  • We know our actions impact ourselves, other sand our environment.
  • We stand up for what is right.
  • We accept and acknowledge that people in our community have different cultures, mindsets and values that need to be respected.

Do:

  • We speak respectfully to each other by using manners and kind talk.
  • We take are of the native area by looking after the trees and plants, and by playing in the correct areas.
  • We show respect to each other by treating each other fairly also recognizing that different individuals require different types of support.
  • We use positive choices to manage ourselves and problems that arise with others.
  • We use school-wide sustainable practices that show respect for the environment.

Excellence

Understand:

  • Excellence is challenging ourselves to reach our highest personal standard and level of achievement in all we do.

Know:

  • We have our own level of excellence that is personal to us.
  • That excellence is an ongoing process that involves taking advantage of all learning opportunities at Eskdale School.
  • Setting goals, perseverance and focus are key attributes to achieving our own personal excellence.

Do:

  • We engage in a cycle of ongoing goal setting using SMART goals in the areas we want to excel in.
  • We seek our and take on advice and guidance from others to help us meet our goals.
  • We use growth mindset self talk and power of yet to help us persevere and focus when things are hard.
  • We celebrate excellence in all forms from within our school community.
  • We engage and use 21st Centaury skills to ensure we are preparing fort future excellence in our leaning journey.
